서울국제포럼 The Seoul Forum for International Affairs(SFIA)

1961년 미국 보스톤에서 태어나 어릴 적 귀국하여 대한민국 국적으로 귀화. Williams College에서 정치경제학 전공으로 1985년에 졸업, University of Chicago에서 1988년에 금융 전공, 경영학 석사를 취득. 그 이후 줄곧 금융계에서 종사. 1988년에 한국에서 대우증권으로 입사, 국제부에서 애널리스트로 시작, 1992년에 홍콩에 건너가 Baring Asset Management Ltd. (이후 ING에 인수)에서 신흥 아시아 시장 담당 펀드매니저로 활약, What Investments (UK) 와 South China Morning Post등으로부터 아시아에서 최우수 국가 펀드 운영자로 수상. 1997년에 다시 투자은행으로 돌아가, 2012년 은퇴까지 15년 동안 Merrill Lynch (이후 Bank of America에 인수)에서 일본과 호주를 포함한 아시아 조사 본부장, 세계 신흥 주식시장 본부장, 세계 테크놀로지 산업 조사 공동 본부장, 환태평양 지역 경영 위원회 위원 등 역임. 그가 지도한 팀이 Institutional Investor Survey에서 1위를 기록 했고, 자신도 아시아의 최고 애널리스트로 Reuters-Extel로부터 수상. 1999년에는 World Economic Forum에서 아시아의 신세대 지도자 중 하나로 지명 되기도 했다. Merrill Lynch이후, 홍콩에서 QL Asset Management, Carret Private Investments등에서 세계 주식시장에 투자하는 롱숏 헤지 펀드를 운영해왔음.

현재 홍콩에 있는 중국 관련 헤지 펀드 Optimas Capital 의 이사회 위원, 한국과 아세안에 투자하는 벤처 캐피털 회사 Access Ventures LLC의 고문으로 있으며, 한편 경기대학교 서비스 경영대학원에서 초빙 교수로 강의하고 있다.

Born in Boston, MA, U.S.A in 1961, Hunsoo Kim fully converted to a Republic of Korea citizenship when young. After graduating from Williams College in 1985 as a political economy major, he received his MBA with a focus in finance at the Graduate School of Business, the University of Chicago in 1988.

Since then he has continued to pursue a career in finance. After working as an analyst at Daewoo Securities Co., Ltd in Korea during 1988-1992, he joined Baring Asset Management Ltd. (later acquired by ING) in Hong Kong where he was fund manager with a focus on emerging Asia equities, and was awarded as best performing country fund manager by both What Investments (UK) and the South China Morning Post. In 1997, Hunsoo moved back to the sell side, joining Merrill Lynch (later acquired by Bank of America) where he was the head of Asia Pacific Research including Japan & Australia, Emerging Markets Research, as well as co-head of global technology sector research and member of the firm’s regional management committee until he retired in 2012. During the period, he led his team to an overall #1 rank in the Institutional Investor surveys as well as being voted as the #1 ranked individual analyst by Reuters-Extel. In 1999, he was also selected as one of the Young Asia Leaders by the World Economic Forum. Post Merrill, he has run a global equity long-short hedge funds at HK based QL Asset Management and Carret Private Investments.

Hunsoo currently serves as a board member at Optimas Capital, an HK based Greater China equity hedge fund, as well as an advisor to Access Ventures LLC, an HK based Venture Capital investment firm with a focus on Korea & ASEAN. He is also a guest lecturer at the Graduate Service Business School at Gyunggi University.
